Self -Care

I just finished Day 1 of a 2 day training program on Suicide Intervention Skills. It’s an eye opening experience, very intense and emotional. The group itself is varied… young, old, male female, those just out of school and retirees. In our discussions, we discovered that anyone and just about everyone has at some time or another has been effected or touched by suicide. The seminar has covered a lot of information and hopefully by its end it will have taken away a lot of the fear associated with helping people dealing the suicide. My trainer Terry has given us some homework; we are supposed to do a self care activity. The purpose of this activity is that if we cannot take care of ourselves how can we be expected to care for others. Self care has been defined as “the right and responsibility to take care of your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being”. Self care may also be thought of as anything that contributes to our emotional, spiritual, physical, and/or social rejuvenation. In other words it’s “Me Time”. Me time,” refers to time for oneself to participate in activities that you enjoy, that provide you with peace and happiness, and awaken your senses. It can be anything from taking a shower / or bath, going for a walk, doing your nails , reading a book, paint, sketch, draw, or be like me and blog. For me blogging is therapeutic . And if I still want to get away from everything I'll get into a steaming bath and play music and just shut my eyes. No interruptions allowed!

I'm definately not a High Tech Blogger

So bloggers just to let you know I survived my first term of College. Actually got a 79.2 average.... in your face non believers and I only had one night involving books and breezers. Not bad for after being out of school for twenty years.  I find this term is filled with a lot of dry but necessary material.... BORING!!!  But I am was enjoying Media class until Pat ( our Instructor) informed me that I would have to do an impromptu speech... damn I hate those. We had to list 5 topics and and he randomly selected students to give their speeches.  My five topics were: 1. Scrabble, 2. Blogging, 3. Reading trashy romance novels, 4. Crossword puzzles and 5. Picture taking. Pretty easy topics huh... Not!! I rehearsed each topic in my head so that I had at least some key points to review but oh no could my brain handle that... got in front of the class and my brain goes to mush and all rational thought was out the door . Here I was in front of the class feeling like a blubbering idiot .My topic was Blogging which although I enjoy I still haven't got an effing clue as to what I am doing here. This blog is a testament  to that. I'm sure there are ways to add fancy text and cool graphics but I don't know how and I won't pretend to. Whether I'm doing it right or not I enjoy it so you can kiss my " Rebel Slut _ Prom Queen " Non- Techno ass if you don't agree...LOl!

Holy Purple Monkey Balls ~ What was I thinking!!!!

Yeah I Know I've been lax  posting here.... But I did a dip shit thing... Got my ass back to school. Yeah I graduated high school even went to college 20+ years ago but never really put my mind to it and became a stay at home Mom. A job I loved as I got two great kids out of it. Not really sure how me & hubby did that as we never had a clue to what we were doing. Just took one day at  a time and thanked God each night that they survived another day with us as parents. But I digress my blog is about my return to school and Holy Purple Monkey Balls is it hard. I am taking the Community Studies Program. The job options vary from RCMP officer (police) to a counsellor at a women's shelter and all points in between. But I tell ya doing courses like Psychology, Sociology ,Community Development , and Human Relations just to name a few make my head hurt. Not to mention the time factor which seems to be at warp speed like something out of a Star Trek episode or something.Don't get me wrong... I enjoy school and I have lots of new friends and its an awesome experience but HPMB I was not prepared for the extra work , the information overload and damn I'm so tired. Like I can't even bawl  at my 17 year old for coming home and going back to bed cuz' I'm doing the same thing. I got to have a nap everyday when I get home... anywhere from a 15 min power nap to a big dirty 1 hour nap.I guess school is exhausting ...it sure ain't cuz I'm 40..lol!!! Well thats my Blog and hopefully I will post again soon!

College Life

College of  the North Atlantic Carbonear Campus
I started my first year of college last week.  I will be attending the local college here in Carbonear. I guess my first semester is going to be a lot of adjusting, meeting people and settling in. I am taking Community Studies (2yrs)  with my focus being on the Women's Issues portion of the Program.I think my biggest challenge will be getting into a routine of studying after being out of the school curriculum  for 21 years( something I didn't do much of in High school) . I have made so many new friends ~! There are 32 in our class I'm sure after the 2 yrs are up I will get to know each one more. The Sociology and Psychology courses so far seem to be very interesting and intimidating . I don't know whether to be excited or terrrified.I truly wasn't sure about going back to school. It seemed the God of Divine Intervention was stepping in wherever he could. I was a week behind the Registration deadline for applications (never had the money) Then my acceptance letter did not arrive when I knew others were out.Apparently I did not send in my ROC (thought it was to be passed in September...wrong!) Ok now its time to see a  counceller  to finalize my application (which goes to HRLE) for funding... she gone on holidays. After a little bit of panic her friendly staff help me out... So my application goes to HRLE... they have looked over my application and have decided to fund me but I have to pay x amount of dollars... now I knew I had to make a contribution but the quoted price ended up being abit more than I expected but here's the kicker I had one day to decided if I would accept the offer or not because you guessed it she was going on holidays. Every where  I turned it seemed the God of Divine Intervention was saying... "don't do this". But as my career counceller pointed out  " If you want something bad enough..fight for it" As you can guess I did accept the proposal and so far I am enjoying college life but that may change after my first exam. Lol!
